Georgetown County Native Sworn Into Georgia State Bar

Georgetown County native, Jonathan Lee Steele, was sworn into the State Bar of Georgia at the Fulton County Government Center in Atlanta on June 28.

Steele is a 2011 graduate of Carvers Bay High School and decided at a young age that one day he would become a lawyer. During high school he was a member of the Mock Trial team and was awarded the “Most Effective Counsel.”

He shadowed Louis Morant at the Morant & Morant Law Firm in Georgetown throughout high school to gain experience.

Steele went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina in 2015 with a degree in Business Administration and double majors in Management and Marketing with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. He minored in Political Science.

During his last year of college, he worked at the South Carolina Attorney General’s office in the Medicaid Provider Fraud Unit, where he worked on patient abuse and Medicaid fraud cases.

He interned at the Goldfinch Winslow Law Farm under Thomas Winslow during the summer of 2017 and graduated from the Drake University Law School in May of 2018.

He worked as a student attorney at the Drake legal clinic in the transactional/entrepreneurial division during his last year of law school where he helped entrepreneurs form LLC’s and non-profits for free. He also completed certificate programs in health law and legislative practice during his time in law school.

Steele is the son of Sarah Haynes and Lamonte Steele. He is the grandson of Shirley Hayes and the honorary grandson of James Parker.

His family said of his accomplishment, “We are extremely proud of him and love him very much. We know that he will continue to prosper and may God bless him.”
