PASSION

Have you ever had one of those weeks that takes you through the emotions faster than a roller coaster?  One moment you are at the top and the next you are falling faster than a comet screaming to Earth.  There is no warning over the weekend of what the week has in store, but when the week arrives it smacks you in the face and maybe even the heart.

This week started with a friend of mine, from the moment I moved to Georgetown, dying in his sleep.  39 years old, laying next to his wife with their 8 year old girl in the room next door.  He just did not wake up.  Then Tuesday morning, I had to do the counseling part of my job.   When working in litigation, especially litigation, there are no guarantees.  I have clients that have been with me since we opened the firm 10 years ago.  I had to tell them that their 16 year old granddaughter, who after 4 months in a coma, who just now is learning to drink from a straw, does not have a medical malpractice case.  The little beacon of hope had to be extinguished by me.  That is the job of a true attorney.  The truth.  Not running from the hard part of the job, but being the rock that your clients can rely on.  I left that meeting and cried the entire way to the office.

I was heart broken for a large part of the week.  Until we had a few huge wins, reconciliations, and great meetings with clients and  potential clients.  Then again late Friday, during a meeting a massive conflict arose that had to be handled with delicate hands.  We will not tolerate lack of civility or respect at the office.  If my team does it they are fired, if my clients do that to my team then they are fired, and if anyone else does it they will be removed from the building by me personally.

The life of a true attorney and counselor is not about the glory, name, or money.  It is about the people we serve.  We serve with passion and if you donโ€™t have that passion, then you will have burnout when trying to deal with the real emotion of the job.  I would rather serve with passion and be hurt by the care we have for our clients and co-workers, than be emotionless and simply view the work we do as a case file.  As is said, โ€œbetter to have loved and lost than to have never have loved at all.โ€

If you need to discuss a legal problem, need a legal solution, or simply need an Attorney that cares about you, please reach out to Winslow Law at 843-357-9301.  We would be happy to serve you.
