Happy Tax Day

Many politicians and truth be told, each of us, have a very narrow window of perspective.  It is hard to understand the view point and mindset of another, when we have never experienced the others impacts in life.  Whether it be economics, sex, race, culture, victimhood, perpetrator hood, and so many more.  At the same time, I propose to you the same loss of perspective applies to entrepreneurship-hood?  Not really a word, but there is a stark difference between starting a business, running a business, and working at a business.  Lets face it whether you like it or not the GOVERNMENT IS A BUSINESS.

Why do I say the government is a business - for this reason:

1. The Country provides a service.  America's service is the right to an opportunity.  Might be success or failure, but it is still an opportunity.  It also protects that opportunity, with domestic services like police, fire, emergency services, the law, but most of all a strong military force.

2. It has customers - the American people.  Not all people, not the World's people, but the American People.  Why the American people?

3. Because it collects a fee - we normally call that taxes.  However, truth be told there are many more fees (fines, license fees, regulatory fees, etc.) collected from it's customers.

4. Finally, if the customers (the tax-payers) don't pay the fee, the government will cut off the service. You either won't get what you want or they will collect the debt from you personally.

Politicians are the leaders of the business.  Many will deny this, but the country is a for-profit business.  It is not a non-profit that owes its' customers anything but the promised product.  If you are giving everything away that you have then you can't provide the service (opportunity and defense) you have promised to provide to your customers (the tax payers).

When a business starts failing to deliver its core service/product, the customers will then start to lose faith in what the business stands for and what it is at its core.  Customers will not trust its leaders and start to rebel.  The business starts to run a deficit because it can't keep up with expectations and it has to borrow heavily to try to keep up. The business then raises its' prices (taxes) or finds other avenues to raise money.  That is where the fines and fees come in that are imposed upon the American people.

Every time you pay a fine, fee, or other costs over your taxes, you are essentially experiencing double taxation.  Which if you remember was one of the catalyst for the creation of America.  Every employee, department, piece of paper, license, road, speed limit sign has been paid for by your taxes originally.  Then they also want you to pay extra in licenses and fees, to use what you paid to create originally.

The next time you get a speeding ticket, understand that you paid for the Road, Speed limit sign, license to drive, police officer, police car, judge, courtroom, paper the ticket is on, and the pen it is written with when you paid your original taxes.  Now you get to pay the fine for using what you paid for, because the politician you paid for (salary), sat in the building you paid for, wrote a law on a piece of paper you paid for, and decided that the way you used what you paid for (taxes), was not the way the politician wanted you to use what you paid for, when you paid your taxes.

By the way Happy Tax Day.   Don't forget to pay for everything - so you can be told how to use everything you paid for.

May God Bless You, Your Business, and the United States of America,

Tom Winslow
